Speech Therapy

My son Declan (3) struggled with pronouncing his words properly, making it hard for others to understand him eg he consistently left off the end of words. Ellen assessed him and identified key areas where she could help – around consonants at the start, middle and end of words. The sessions were held at our house, so Declan was in familiar surroundings, and all the learning was done through play, so Declan didn’t even realise he was working at his speech.

Traumatic Brain Injury

I sustained a traumatic brain injury and wanted to continue with my study to become a trained Early Childhood Teacher.
Ellen was appointed as my Speech Language Therapist and set about putting a programme in place to ensure that I could reach this goal.
Her approach to achieve this was to offer attention based exercises. We had set our goals that were to achieve me double checking my work, understanding a question to help me achieve writing essays and achieving my exams. We also undertook activities to switch my attention from one task to another. Ellen would tell me why we would do a particular activity which I felt helped me to understand her approach. I found Ellen’s approach successful as I have noticed a change in myself such as understanding a given task or social situation more and my ability to think about how to achieve a task or social aspect and achieve a positive outcome.
